A postcard with the front showing a photograph of Brady Point on Walden's Ridge in Signal Mountain. A streetcar can be seen in the background traveling up Chattanooga Traction Company's rail line connecting Chattanooga with the Signal Mountain Inn.
Built to serve the Signal Mountain Inn, the Chattanooga Traction Company was chartered in 1911 by C. E. James. Once finished, the 13-mile route could carry a passenger from North Chattanooga to the hotel's doorstep. As one rode up the mountain, the Tennessee River Gorge appeared beside the route, affording majestic views. A road for vehicular traffic was constructed alongside the rail line, which is still in use today. Rail service continued up to 1934 when the streetcars were decommissioned to be replaced by busses. Most of the rile line has now been removed, but portions can still be seen running down the center of James Boulevard near the former Signal Mountain Inn.Subject Place
