Description

A postcard with the front showing a photograph of a crowded interior of the Rathskeller (restaurant) located at 618 Cherry Street. The Rathskeller was established in the former Turnverein Club building on Cherry Street after Prohibition ended by Albert Schlickling in 1935. The Rathskeller was based on German Rathskellers which acted as a city hall and restaurant. The Rathskeller also had a deli counter. The restaurant closed in 1970 and the building burned in 1972. The rear reads "The South's famous Eating, Drinking and Entertainment spot. 618 Cherry St. Chattanooga A GOOD PLACE TO BRING YOUR VISITORS"
