Photograph of Vietnam U. S. Army veteran and Beaver, Ohio native Charles Logan Knipp. Charles Logan Knipp, aged 73, died at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice in Portsmouth on June 1, 2023. He was born in Ashland KY on June 7, 1949 the son of Harold Lloyd and Laura Evelyn Ross Knipp. He graduated from Eastern High School in the class of 1967. In March 1969 he was drafted into the United States Army and received his initial military training at Fort Knox KY and Fort Gordon GA. In September 1969 he was ordered to Vietnam where he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He spent twelve months in the combat zone where much of his time was spent participating in jungle patrols. He received the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Marksmanship Badge. He was discharged at Fort Knox KY on December 31, 1970. After his discharge, Charlie attended Portsmouth Interstate Business College. He worked with his father on the family farm raising tobacco, corn, soy beans, hay and livestock. He was working several jobs he found employment as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He served his career working out of the Beaver Post Office and retired after thirty years of service. He was an active youth coach and served as a leader at Givens Chapel Church. Charlie married Deborah Ann Largent in Jackson County OH on February 20, 1979. He married his second wife, Stephanie Ann Williams, on March 18, 1995.
