Description

This piece of Beaver Hotel stationary dates to the late 1890s. The letter reads as follows: Travelers, to avoid danger, carry the 26th Psalm under the left arm pit. To preserve memory the 18th is recited seven times over a glass of wine. To be strong, the 70th Psalm is printed upon a piece of bearskin and worn suspended from the neck. To preserves one’s self from the bite of rabid dogs you write upon a parchment the words Hax Pax Max, and wear it near the liver. The formula Och Och engraven with a diamond point upon brass will drive away fleas and other vermin. To avoid all dangers, it is necessary to wear upon your person a black agate with white veins. Miss Lena new Beaver, O.
