S. 4 Teachers take some time out at EHS to discuss classes and studies! ! ! Naturally the study halls at EHS are used strictly for the job of studying. Believe me, all this work can really get the best of a guy!I! 1 at &JfS Look at that line?!! The students have to get their daily go power from the cafeteria. Believe it or not - some of the students still get lost at EHS. (it’s a little hard to believe, isn't it?) - I ■ The halls at Eastern are quite peaceful at times. But not at other times. Right? Decficahon t MR. BRADY SIMS (1902-1967) Mr. Sims was born in Glen Falls, West Virginia on October 1,1902. He was the son of the late William B. and Mary E. Sims. He had a family of seven brothers and sisters. Mr. Sims attended public schools in Harri son Co., and was graduated from Vic tory High School in Clarksburg in 1921. In high school he was active in football, basketball and baseball. Brady Sims attended West Virginia University and was graduated from Salem College in 1925 with an A.B. Degree. He was active in sports; being a three-letter man. Mr. Sims taught at Spencer, West Virginia and Nutter Fort, West Virginia. He also taught and coached athletics in Clarksburg for ten years where he was League Championship Coach in 1932, and at which school he was Principal in the school year of 1933-1934. Before resuming his teach ing career, Mr. Sims started working for the Hazel-Atlas Glass Company in Clarksburg. Here he started the personnel department and served twenty-three years as the director of that depart ment. After some additional courses at Salem College, he returned to teaching in 1962 in the Eastern Local School District. Mr. Sims took an active interest in local activities and politics and was a former manager of the Clarksburg City Council. He had been a former Superintendent of Playgrounds for the City of Clarksburg. He taught Sunday School in North View E.U.B. Church for twenty-seven years and later in Central Christian Church in Clarksburg, where he was a member at the time of his death. He was married to Nora Alonso of Clarksburg, West Virginia, June 17, 1932. Mr. Sims had one son, James Brady Sims, bom in 1935 and died in infancy. Mr. Brady Sims was a very dedicated teacher here at EHS where he taught English and social studies. He was very active in all community affairs and was liked by everyone. The community, as well as the school, was saddened by his death which occurred shortly after the 1967 school year. We, the yearbook staff, would like to dedicate this 1968 yearbook in memory of Mr. Brady Sims. ADMINISTRATION To the Graduating Class of 1968: GEORGE PENDLETON LOCAL SUPERINTENDENT To the Seniors and Eagle Staff: AMOS D. SALISBURY PRINCIPAL 8 First, congratulations on a job well done. But remember, education is a continuing process; it does not end with a high school diploma. Just as in the building of a house, the foundation is the first and most important part, so is your education. You now have a good foundation on which to build, how elaborate you make your house depends on you. Since the future is what you make it, you should aim high. It has been my privilege and pleasure to be associated with this class. Again, congratulations and may your fondest dreams and highest aspira tions be attained. Remember to always put your trust in God, for if he be for you, who can be against you. May I say congratulations to you. The seniors deserve congratulations for completing highschool; the Eagle Staff for the fine effort in producing a yearbook. Our objective here at Eastern is to develop clear thinking individuals who can go out and function properly in the society in which they live. I would hope your ability to think clearly stays with you long after you have forgotten many of the rules and formulas you studied in class. A parrot can learn to quote a phrase; the truly educated person can think and reason. I would like to wish you the greatest success you are able to achieve in the future, and may you always have fond memories of your years at Eastern High School. Archie was the first person to serve as President of his class for four years at Eastern. He has been a member of the Eastern basketball team for four years. He served as a Tri-Captain his senior year. He was on the track team his freshman and sophomore years. He played the role of Ronald Howland in the Junior Class Play and played the trombone for two years in the school band. The past summer he attended Journalism Workshop and served as Sports Editor on the '68 annual staff.
