Birchbark Basket - Ojibwe

Birchbark basket is box shaped (semi round) with a top bordering edge of wrapped spruce root (?) strips. One repeating, symmetrical, flora/leaf design (with a center upside-down heart) decorates each length side. A second geometric design (a single diamond divided into two open triangles) appears on bottom underside. The designs are achieved by scraping away the inner bark to highlight the outer layer. The designs (outer layer) appear in dark rusty brown on a tawny-beige background (inner layer).
