Birchbark Basket - Ojibwe

Birchbark basket is boat-shaped with a top bordering edge of wrapped spruce root strips. Two repeating, symmetrical, geometric designs (very faint) decorate each of the four outer sides (with opposing sides matching). Repeating triangles (two parallel, horizontal rows) appear on each length side; linear, criss-cross designs appear on each oblong-end side. The designs are achieved by scraping away the inner bark to highlight the outer layer. Outer layer is light rusty brown; designs appear in light rusty beige and a darker rust/brown.
