Birchbark Basket - Ojibwe

Object/Artifact

-

Plains Art Museum

Birchbark basket is boat-shaped with a top bordering edge of wrapped spruce root strips. Two repeating, symmetrical floral designs decorate each of the four outer sides (with opposing sides matching). The designs are achieved by scraping away the inner bark to highlight the outer layer. The designs (outer layer) are deeper tones of rusty brown on a lighter rust background.
