Mimas dawn

Name/Title

Mimas dawn

Description

Mimas is the closest “classical” satellite of Saturn that was known before the Voyager encounters. Astronaut Alan Bean once told Bill that most lunar paintings showed too flat a surface. Instead, it seemed that everywhere lay a surface at a slightly different angle. Hartmann tried to capture that feeling of dawn lighting on such a chaotic surface.
