Frame for the large portrait of the female subject thought to be Countess Lomellini. Constructed of mitered and profiled front molding attached to a lap joint backing frame which creates the rabbet. The frame has a flat insert with an arched top and ogee profiled lower corners. The moulding has a deep outer cove and a wide frieze on the inside. The frieze is decorated with scraffito foliate design, which is continued on the spandrels of the insert. Remainder of frame is gold leaf.Artwork Details

In 1996 Eric Price noted the frame has a grime layer, and there are wood losses along the left front outer edge. The gesso is lifting extensively on the front edge and the sight edge with scattered losses. Some gesso losses are overpainted. The painted was varnished in the frame.Provenance
