Notes

Frame has outer layer of grime, gesso is flaking at top with scattered losses. All ornament appears darkened, ground exposed. Joints at lower right and left are cracked and have been covered with crude gold repairs which stand out. (8/12/1996 - Eric Price)

Provenance

Notes

Collected By: Natalie Coe Vitetti W. R. Coe acquired it from Mrs. E. F. Hutton for $1,000. She had purchased it a day earlier, in 1939, at an auction from a Mr. Cailleux, who had bought it a few years before from a French duke, who was the descendant of the Dutchesse de Tourzel, the governess of Marie Antoinette's children. After Coe's death, his son Robert bought it in 1955 from the Foundation for $18,000, and kept it in his Cannes house. William Robertson Coe Robert D. Coe Planting Fields Foundation
