A 12-panel Coromandel screen, in two sections of six panels each, depicting on the right hand six panels: intricate carved and polychromed scenes of Chinese businessmen outdoors, with various buildings and scholars' rooms visible, the gates to the city on the right, with musicians in gazebo in foreground, in addition, on far right, a band of riders on horseback, approaching the entrance to the walled city; the left six panels, showing mostly ladies, in domestic situations, indoors and outdoors with children; toward the center of the twelve panels, in depicted the ruler, seated on "throne" with visitors paying homage, women playing musical instruments, all the vignettes in lush garden setting, the upper border depicting "hundred precious objects," the sides and bottom border with dragons, Foo dogs, and other wild animals, all against a scarlet lacquered ground.Collection
