Description

A Chinese terracotta "Sancai"-glazed figure of a "Lokapala", one of the Guardian Kings of Buddhist faith, in green, brown, and flesh tones. Probably "K'ang H'si" (1662-1722), showing an elaborately dressed warrior figure, with fierce expression on face, seated on simple support with legs spread, the whole mounted on a gilt bronze base, as a table lamp, the base with cast bull-rushes and other naturalistic features such as rock out-croppings, supported on foliated melon-ball feet.
