Description

Age of Specimen: Adult Wapiti (elk) or Red Deer (cervus elaphus) adult male taxidermy mount of head and 11-point antlers with soft tissues of nose modeled in wax. Skin shaped over an unidentified form. Mouth closed, glass eyes, probably painted on reverse. This elk was shot by William Robertson Coe in the early 1920's on one of several properties that he owned in Wyoming's Big Horn Basin. The specimen was treated in 2002 by conservator Catherine Hawks. Notes

Treated by Catharine Hawks in 9/2002: Vacuumed with a HEPA filtered vacuum, cleaned hair surface and antlers. Cleaned wire and metal tag, painted synthetic hair, made fills around eyes and nose, reattached skin on nose, mouth and chin, consolidated plaster behind eyes, and coated hanging hardware, wire, seal, and metal tag.
