Description

[L5] Stained glass panel, one of a pair of medallions. This one depicts St. Martin sharing his cloak, on almost all clear glass pieces done with very fine trace work. Martin is mounted on a white horse with yellow accents, standing on a mountainside with a blue background. Saint, with a golden halo, is cutting his cloak with his sword, while the beggar stands hunched beside the horse looking up at Martin.

General Notes

Note

Notes: This scene shows the most popular event in the life of St. Martin when he cuts his cloak in half to give to a poor and sick beggar. This and other medallion were reconstituted as a pair after they suffered extensive damage that caused a portion of the original glass to be discarded. Status: OK
