Description

A Charles II desk box-on-frame, the box, probably mid-late 17th Century, having a molded-edge slant lift-top, with hand-wrought iron butterfly hinges, the top opening to a compartmented interior, the front and sides with foliate and lunette carved design, the whole set on an oak frame of later date, with straight skirt frieze, ring-turned, tapered legs, box-stretchered base, the top and base by association. Base was probably a tavern table from the early 18th Century. Has "R A" carved into top section of desk. Acquired by Margueritte Pettet in 1977.
