"Head of a French King (Gallery JI)
This panel is listed in the Corpus Vitrearum Checklist I as Originating form England.
It appears to be made of fragments of a head painted in the 15th century, which was mounted on a blue background with two lily flowers and a border usiing fragments of more modern manufacture. The Fleur de Lis bieng the emblem of French royalty, it was named in Mr. Coe's collection and on the purchase record from Mr. Grosvenor as the French King.
That small medallion is one of several in the collection made from a significant piece of original glass. That head is a very beautiful example of fifteenth century painting, characterized by fine trace work, wery little matting, the use of silver stain and expressive facial features."Collection
