Notes

While Marshall Fine Arts was moving the sofa out of the Visitor Center after the Netflix shoot wrapped, they handled it incorrectly while trying to move it through the doorway. This resulted in two of the legs snapping off - the left and right front legs. There appear to be dowels that attached the legs to the sofa, unclear if those are original or previous repairs. The dowels were snapped and the legs themselves around the dowels appear to be damaged. Wooden object conservator Melanie Brussat will be on site 4/4/2025 to examine.

Recommendations

We either need a more qualified conservator to examine the sofa or we can make the repairs in house, as Ray from Queen Ann only used regular wood glue.

Notes

Ray of Binder's Queen Ann came to Planting Fields to repair the sofa. He drilled into the front left sofa leg (the part still atatched), inserted a dowel, glued the dowel into place in both the sofa and detached leg, and then used the dowel to reatach the leg. He also glued the broken ornamental wooden detail piece back together. Total cost $150, paid by check.

Damage to front left leg and ornamental wood Damage Information: Front left leg and part of ornamental wood damaged - sofa was moved on 03/07/2023 for an event, leg fell off when moving it back the following morning. Damaged reported by John Pacini, Facilities Manager, to Emily Leger, Collections and Exhibitions Manager. John stated that it looked like the leg had been attached with glue, possibly from a previous repair. The ornamental wood attached to the leg is cracked and separated from the rest of sofa with the leg. Sofa is currently sitting on leg that is not properly attached.
