Description
Frame for Salisbury portrait of W. R. Coe. Moulding has an ogee profile with two raised bands of ornament. Large foliate ornament in each corner, band of lace ornament and egg motif on sight edge. Made of carved wood, finished in silver leaf and toned gold.

Examined by Eric Price in 1996 - gesso layer is lifting extensively with major gesso losses. Some areas have been covered with bronze powder paint. Wood substrate appears to have shrunken, causing the gesso to crack and tent. HIGH PRIORITY for treatment.
