Notes

On July 1, 1975 it was cleaned and varnished along with other Carbone portrait by the Berger Art Conservation, Inc. In August, 1997, conservation work was done to consolidate flaking paint at the top of the painting, to remove greasy, grimy surface film, correct discolored areas of retouching, and apply a protective surface coat to painting

Collected By: Marquese Guiseppe Cattaneo, William Robertson Coe Purchased by W. R. Coe from Marquese Guiseppe Cattaneo of Genoa in 1923. Note

Notes: Robert Coe identified the subject as Count Lomellini. Erik Larsen believes him to be Giovanni Francesco, the son of Doge Giacomo Lomellini, who was doge from 1625-7. In W. R. Coe's correspondence regarding the painting pair, he identifies the artist as Jan van Dyke. Status: OK
