Description

Missal used in the chapel at Baillytown.

Context

The missal is a liturgical book containing instructions and texts written in Latin that is used by a priest during a Catholic mass. The Bailly family lived a pious life and often hosted itinerant Catholic priests at their homestead because for many years it was the only place to hold mass in the Calumet region. This missal from 1867 was used after the deaths of Joseph and Marie and belonged to their daughter Rose and her daughters Rose and Frances.
