Description

Silk wedding dress with a lace top, pointed lace sleeves, and a full train. Dress was originally white but has yellowed with age.

Use

Worn by Valparaiso resident Virginia Lee Lamb at her wedding on September 12, 1948. Lamb married Chesterton resident John Jefferson Miller, Jr., who served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2.

Context

Silk was a scarce commodity during and after the war. Dresses like this one were made from the silk of parachutes brought home as war souvenirs.
