Description

Large burl from an oak tree.

Context

Faye Horner's grandfather, a local farmer, dug up this burl at the end of the 19th century when he got tired of continually bumping over it in his wagon on the way into town. It served as a doorstop in the Horner home for generations. Some visitors thought it resembled a curled-up kitten.
