Scope and Content

The Starlite Ballroom was built in 1956 along North Second Drive in Stevens Point. After almost 50 years as a Polish wedding venue, dance hall, and rentable venue space, the Starlite Ballroom was torn down in December of 2006. Owners Ken and Cheryl Ostrowski ran the business their whole lives. The business was first known as Keen's Tapp, a small one-room tavern when Cheryl's parents (Matt and Lorraine Kolodziej) ran the business. They had purchased the building in 1953. The tavern became Matt's bar, and in 1956 they enlarged the facility and added a dance floor and dining area. That was when it became known as the Starlite Ballroom. Between 30 and 35 weddings were held there annually, with anywhere between 500 and 800 diners there for the reception meal.
