Floral damask cloth slipper (one). “Worn by Miss Sally Brewster of Portsmouth at a grand ball given in honor of George Washington’s visit in 1789. Miss Brewster was honored with a seat by the side of General Washington in the carriage that conveyed him to the ball. Contributed by her grandson, Samuel Gerrish." Jelly tag on bottom of sole that says "#2 Brewster Slipper by Mrs. J.H. Tyler."
