Att. to Stevens & Williams Ltd., pair of vases, Brierly Hill, England, 1870s-80sEntry/Object ID
439Description
These vases have distinctive decoration in the form of applied tendrils with leaves and flowers. Such vases and related glass wares are often attributed to the longstanding English glasshouse of Stevens and Williams. Probably imported into Portsmouth in the late nineteenth century and used here, these vases represent the exuberance of the so-called Aesthetic Movement, when art for art's sake was popular.
