Queen's Chapel, built in 1732, was named in honor of Caroline, the wife of King George II. (It was located on the site of today's St. John's Church on Chapel Street until it burned in 1806.) An Anglican congregation, Queen’s Chapel represented the established church of England. It fell on hard times during the Revolution, when it was associated with Loyalists. A fundamental part of the new American Constitution was the separation of church and state.Type of Painting
