Description

One of six small ceramic plates with polychrome images of colonial revival Revolutionary themes, with brown rim and edging of blue stars, with text. One references JPJ and Betsy Ross; has text: “June 14, 1777. The ‘Stars and Stripes’ is officially adopted / as the flag of the new nation. Originally a naval flag, it / is so used by Commander John Paul Jones. / The design is later attributed to a seam- / stress, one Betsy Ross.” Each marked on back “Made in Japan” and “[copyright] 0.0.1. 1975.” Diam. 6 1/8 in. NB: low quality ceramics, most fitted with added hanger. Additional text: “WARNING / FOR DECORATIVE PURPOSES ONLY. NOT TO BE USED FOR SERVING FOODS.”
