A note found inside this case read: "This became mine upon my mother's death - Oct. 1909. / Harriet Langdon Pruyn Rice. / Edmund Roberts, my Grandmother Parker's father, brought this on "The Peacock." On the other side it says, "This ivory card case belonged to my Dear Mother and was among the things brought home on the U.S. Ship 'Peacock' in 1836 - when the "Embassy to Eastern Courts ceased to exist-" Mother of pearl calling card case with Japanese inlaid Shibayama decoration. "Parker" inscribed in top.
