In 1775, on account of the ill feeling between the officers of the British man-of-war Scarborough and the townsfolks of New Castle, a shot was fired into the Trefethern house and badly damaged the roof. This is thought to be that cannonball. It was preserved for many years and was presented to the Portsmouth Historical Society by Mr. Gerard Amazeen.Acquisition
