Typed label on back reads:
"This Coat-of-Arms was created for John Paul Jones when he was made a Knight of St. Louis by the French King Louis XIV, The first honor of the kind conferred by any foreigner by him. Around the shield are grouped various emblems of naval warfare and at attempt at the flags of the nations he had been a part of. The shield and crest are in part similar to one of the numerous Welsh Jones Arms at the College of Arms at London. The ermine points were apparently original with John Paul Jones, The whole being of the eighteenth century and of English Origin. Copied from the original Arms in the Masonic Library in Boston."
