Description

Child's dress, made for a 3 or 4 year-old, silk. black and green vertical stripes, two rows black lace on cuffs and neck. Boddice lined with cotton, hand sewn. Thin net-like cotton weave backing skirt. 1 inch wide waist band (horizontal stripes). Skirt attached with cartridge pleats. Metal hooks and thread eyes on back.

Donor - Mrs. Susan J. Jewett. 75 Sewall Ave. Brookline, MA (donated 1920). May have been Susan J. Jewett's childhood dress approx. 1860. Lived with stepmother in 1890s in 38 Islington Portsmouth, NH. Parents - Elisha and Sarah Jewett, of So. Berwick, ME.
