William Cadogan Simes, ladle, 1800-1820Entry/Object ID
2021.008Description
Silver objects, easily engraved and with intrinsic value, were often passed down through generations, frequently (although not exclusively) through matrilineal lines. This ladle, engraved with the letter "Q" on top of its handle, was probably owned originally by Edmund Huske Quincy (1759–1818) of Portsmouth. It descended in several generations of the family to the donor, as indicated by the credit line.
Ladle with coffin end, and with tapering and slightly angled shaft leading to a small bowl; engraved in script "Q" on top of handle; marked "W [pellet] Simes" in script on rectangle on backCollection
