Description

Paper fan with painted scene of young ladies and gentlemen in a garden on one side and men and an island with trees on the other side. Supports are mother of pearl cutwork in a carved design with silver inlay, painted with gilt. Supports are held together with a gold loop. Red bordered tag attached to fan and says, "Langdon #2."

Helen Haven Langdon, niece of the Woodbury Langdon who donated money to purchase John Paul Jones House, and gr-gr grandaughter of Hon Woodbury Langdon. She was an artist, studied in Boston. Lived at the Treadwell-Cutter-Langdon house corner of Congress and Middle.Fan could be from either Langdon or Cutter families.
