Round pin with blue text and black images against a beige background; "Kearsarge and Alabama / Celebration / [images of two ships] Portsmouth, N.H. / September 17 - 18 - 19 - 20, 1900."
Context
The battleships Kearsarge and Alabama were commissioned in 1900 as namesakes for the Civil War-era ships that engaged in a famous battle in 1864. The commissioning was celebrated over several days in September 1900 in Portsmouth, and this pin commemorates that event.
