Sampler with complex border of sawtooth and berry motifs, alphabets, lower portion familiar Portsmouth landscape. Modern bird’s-eye maple frame, plexi-glass. Maker dtr. of Capt. Caleb & Sarah Marden Currier. M. John J. Marston in 1849. Daughter was Sarah Emily Currier, aged 16, June 20, 1840. Alphabet and “religion smooths life's troubled stream / She sheds a mild resplendent beam/ That lulls to stillness every care / And blunts the arrow of despair / Then Sarah learn her path to trend / By her bright taper then be led / To Heaven's high dome the blest abode / Of saints and angels and of God.”
