Low bannister back chair with rush seat. Chair resembles other Portsmouth chairs with fishtail crest.
The feet have been cut down and he crest rail has been broken. The rush seat is old but not original.
Maple crest, stay rail, stiles, front legs, two right banisters maybe birch, soft maple, ash stretchers & seat rails.Collection

"This chair, which has a history of ownership with the Dow family, is distinguished by a "fish tail" crest type that is common to Portsmouth surrounding region during the eighteenth century. A banister-back chair such as this might have been made by any one of local turners.
