Provenance

Notes

Family tradition records that this Bible was owned originally by Thomas Tarlton Tredick (1799-1888), a Portsmouth merchant with a store on Market St. He was the son of Capt. Henry Tredick. Thomas’s home was across from the present-day Rockingham Hotel, on State Street. It bears the signature “Thomas Tredick” in script in ink on the half-title, probably inscribed when Thomas acquired the Bible, perhaps as a young man. Byh descent in the family to the donor.
