Description

If the physical does not define us, then why do we alter it? It is an outward projection of who one is. The trouble is that some individuals use said projection to conform to other’s ideals, while others wield it to achieve their own identity. At times, the physical contradicts one’s sense of self and identity. Conforming…does it perpetuate social norms, or does it achieve self-actualization? Judgement, comparison, the constant stimulus of the media in your pocket. Losing oneself in the over exposure of others. Feminine beauty standards, plastic, or cosmetic surgery are the pinnacle of a social mask, making it a permanent mask. A cycle forms. Ideally, the recipient finds a new confidence. However, the standards persist. The impossible question is should one prioritize self-confidence over stripping away compulsory beauty ideals?
