This icon depicts the Resurrection of Christ by means of his descent into Hell in where he saves the just of past eras, including Adam and Eve. The twelve surrounding scenes refer to the major festivals in the Orthodox Church. There is ample use of gold leaf in the background and the haloes of figures. Gold paint is also used for the icon’s inscriptions.
