Schelte Bolswert (1586-1659), Dutch after Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), Flemish The Resurrection, ca. 1640-1680 Ink on paper engraving 2021.05.20 Beginning in 1633, Bolswert worked directly with Rubens to translate his paintings to engravings. This print was originally published by Martin vanden Enden, but his name has been scratched out next to the term excudit, meaning to produce or execute. The title reads, CHRISTUS RESURGENS EX MORTIUS IAM NON MORITUR (Christ Risen from the Dead, No Longer Dead). The following lines were added in later versions of the print: Iuxta prototypon depictum a P. Paulo Rubenio quod est in Ecclesia Cathedrah Antverpiensi in Epitaphio Ioannis Moreti and Martinae Plantinae (After to the original painted by Peter Paul Rubens which is in the Church of the Cathedral of Antwerp in the "Epitaph" [likely altar]). The names Ioannis Moreti and Martinae Plantinae likely are the publisher brothers Balthasar I and Jan II Moretus who were also friends with Rubens.
