"Born in Hahnville, Louisiana, Clarence Millet worked as a store clerk in New Orleans until friends recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career as an artist. Consequently, he went to New York and studied at the Art Student’s League with George Bridgeman. Early in his career, the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts exhibited one of his paintings. He had continued success, and his works were shown at the New York World’s Fair of 1939 and the Art Institute of Chicago
Upon returning to New Orleans, Millet opened a studio in the French Quarter and became an active and respected member of the Arts and Crafts Club, the New Orleans Art Association, the New Orleans Art League, the Southern States Art League and the Mississippi Arts Association. In 1943 he was admitted into the National Academy of Design.
