"Born in Vienna, Steinle travelled to Rome as a young man in 1828 and stayed for several years. Upon his return he became a well known instructor at the Stadletsches Institut in Frankfurt, Germany and was one of the group known as the school of the Nazarenes for the religious nature of their painting. This engraving is a reproduction of a Steinle painting done by Ludwig Friedrich."
