In this image of the Holy Mandylion, great detail and attention has been paid to the intricate border of the icon as well as Christ’s halo. Red, blue, and gold are all used to form beautiful interlacing patterns that surround the image. The softness of Christ’s face and its rounded form point to the influence of western artists upon this work.
