"Alfred-Louis Brunet-Debaines began his career as a successful artist/printmaker in France, where his etchings were accepted into the Paris Salon in 1866. Soon, however, he found himself working mostly in England and Scotland, where he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers. In this era before the prevalence of the photograph, he became known for his illustrations of famous architecture, street scenes and places. "
