For the biography of St. Nicholas, please see 2005.02.066. The triptych features St. Nicholas in the central panel holding an open Bible and flanked by Christ and the Virgin in clouds. God appears in the section above St. Nicholas with his hands spread in benediction and a dove and a crossed halo belonging to Christ immediately below, all reflecting the notion of the Trinity. On either of the triptych’s side panels, other saints turn toward and praise Nicholas. The curvilinear sections above the side panels feature two figures in devotional poses.
