"This flogging whip is similar to those used in other Middle Eastern countries to publicly expose and punish those accused of wrongdoing. Each violator would incur a series of whips in numbers dependant on the seriousness of the crime. Typically other wrongdoers would await their own punishments, standing in lengthy lines. This instrument of punishment is made of steel, brass and wood. Observe marks carved into the handle in a pattern representing the marks the whip would make on the sinner. As Taliban assumed Aghan rule, the practice of flogging (abolished in ) was revived, and is presently an active form of penalty. A woman may incur lashes for walking in public without a male family member, or even for wearing nail polish."
