As in 2005.02.108 (representing the same theme), the Virgin stands in an interior setting, framed by an open doorway with curtains. As before, she has been reading a sacred text, opened on a lectern next to her. Here, however, the furnishings are very elaborate, including the gilded and carved lectern, a throne-like chair with cushions, and a partly rounded footstool. Moreover, the Virgin seems to greet Gabriel (who appeared in a separate panel) with one raised hand. In the background is a palatial building of reddish hue. The icon’s silver frame has a floral pattern. This work is closely related in style and scale to 2005.02.060, representing the Evangelist John, and both icons may be products of the same workshop.
