Where the Rivers Meet Nada Shalaby Linocut and Inkjet, 2008 Nada Shalaby is an Egyptian-American artist who was born in Cairo. She has lived and worked in several major cities including Cairo, Chicago and most recently New York. Her practice consists of installations, performance, social engagement and the creation of fictitious archives and research materials. Shalaby’s work looks at the topography of language and their associating cultural aspects within the public sphere. Where the Rivers Meet explores the convergence of East and West, overlaying the confluence of two rivers, the Nile representing Cairo, Egypt and the Mississippi representing Cairo in Southern Illinois; locations far removed from each other but connected through name and flowing water.
