This image captures a landscape view of Mt. Vesuvius in 1895, before the last 1944 eruption. The image is taken from across a body of water; the photographer could have taken a photo from across the Gulf of Naples, in the Bay of Naples. The two peaked mountain is covered in snow at the tips, and has a town at the base of the mountain.
